This friendly pair of fantails was first captured by the artist, Hannah Shand, on film during a birdwatching trip in the South Island. Once Hannah returned home she captured the pair in ink.
The Maori word ‘Tauawhi’ translates to hug, embrace and support (one another) as Fantails are often found happily, roosting together in cold weather.
The limited edition print, available in two sizes, has been carefully reproduced from a fine ink original. The print has been signed, dated and titled.

Hannah Shand specialises in detailed animal sketches, with a passion for New Zealand birds.
Hannah's realistic drawings are created using fine tip black ink pens. Skillfully applying different pressures, she carefully renders fine details of the animal's feathers, fur, skin or scars.
Taking inspiration from the abundance of bird-watching spots, bush walks and incredible scenery near her studio Hannah uses her art to showcase the beauty of New Zealand's unique wildlife. She hopes to inspire others to care for our animals and works with local conservation groups to raise money through her art and promoting the work they're doing.
Hannah's work is shown in select galleries across New Zealand.
