Waikato artist Jane Crisp is inspired by her love of the natural world. Born in Auckland, the largely self-taught artist has been painting professionally for over a decade following her first solo show in 2003.
Following a childhood spent drawing, painting and creating whatever she could get her hands on, Jane uncovered a fascination with birds as a pre-teen after noticing a large coffee table book of Ray Harris Ching's work, an artist that continues to inspire her practice.
Drawn to fine detail, and encouraged by her senior art teacher, Jane attended the Auckland University of Technology and completed a year of preliminary courses in Graphic Design. Despite being encouraged to complete the 3-year diploma course, Jane felt the move wasn't right for her and consequently found herself working in the fabric industry. Here Jane worked with exotic fabrics and laces before marrying and starting her family. Throughout this time Jane continued to hone her technique.
Jane's work is shown in a few select galleries across New Zealand.
