Working in fine ink pens, artist Hannah Shand creates intricately detailed images of New Zealand's most recognisable birds. Working in collaboration with photographers with links to rehabilitation and rescue projects, Hannah captures both the abundant and rare birds of New Zealand.
'Flying Free' captures a tui on the wing; wings mid-motion in a downward stroke to provide thrust and lift. This boisterous and vocal bird is widespread throughout New Zealand and is instantly recognisable.
The stunning Tui image was referenced from John Parker who captured the Tui photo in Kihikihi, where numbers have significantly increased thanks to the Hamilton ‘Halo Project’.
This fine art limited edition print has been signed, titled and numbered by the artist.

Artist Hannah Shand specialises in detailed animal sketches, with a passion for New Zealand birds.
Hannah's realistic drawings are created using fine tip black ink pens. Skillfully applying different pressures, she carefully renders fine details of the animal's feathers, fur, skin or scars.
Taking inspiration from the abundance of bird-watching spots, bush walks and incredible scenery near her studio Hannah uses her art to showcase the beauty of New Zealand's unique wildlife. She hopes to inspire others to care for our animals and works with local conservation groups to raise money through her art and promoting the work they're doing.
Hannah's work is shown in select galleries across New Zealand.
