Establishing her own unique style, Gillian Buckley’s beautiful graphite and ink portrayals are both refined and timeless. It’s hard to believe looking at her photorealistic portraits that at one stage Gillian thought her talent didn’t extend to creating fine art. Having studied art at secondary school and lacking confidence in her work, Gillian stopped creating for 23 years pursuing other things. Always meaning to return to art it wasn’t until Gillian turned 38 and her life underwent a major change she started taking drawing lessons.

Quickly discovering her hidden talent, and a passion for portraiture, Gillian complete a year of classes before spending the next two years practising and gaining experience. In 2012, with the aim of making more of her art, Gillian started studying part-time with The Learning Connexion.

Seeing her work as a visual story, one that often comes from her own experiences, Gillian aims to create works that people can connect with and shape as their own. Her work is distinguished by its exquisite time-consuming details: strands of hair, individual eyelashes, freckles and blemishes.
