Water Spirit

Artist Statement: The works in this exhibition are all part of my patupaiarehe, or nature spirits, collection.

Quick hands and sharp little teeth can snatch an unsuspecting passerby and drag them to a watery doom.

Medium: White stoneware clay and mid-fire glazes

Debra has been mucking about with clay in some form or another for nearly thirty years. She lives on 27 acres of isolated hill-paddock in the rural Waikato near the foot of Pirongia Mountain, which has long been known for its sightings of patupaiarehe.
It’s there that she sculpts in clay, paints and draws, plants trees and plays music, and marvels (on a daily basis) at the tiny wonders of the natural world immediately surrounding her little orchard studio.
